What is the schedule going to look like?
The marching band season officially kicks off in mid-April when we announce the upcoming season's program. We then begin with weekly rehearsals throughout the spring and summer to help initiate younger players into the program. At the end of July we hold a mini-camp that runs Monday through Thursday from 6-9pm. We increase the intensity a little at these rehearsals to get everyone prepared for the two weeks of camp which are held the first two weeks of August. These camps are held from 8am - 4pm and it is where we learn the vast majority of the program for the competitive season. Once the school year begins, our rehearsal schedule remains constant through the remainder of the season. We rehearse Mondays and Wednesdays from 3-6pm. Football games are Friday nights, and our competitions are on Saturdays.

Is there a cost associated with participating in marching band?
Yes, there is a financial obligation associated with participation in the marching band. Like many scholastic extra-curriculars, the band program is supported by the Deer Lakes School District. However, the music program often provides opportunities above and beyond the appropriations of the school district. These additional opportunities require additional funding. The dues or fees are determined annually and are communicated to families at the summer picnic /booster meeting.

Are fundraising opportunities available?
The Deer Lakes Band Programs offer many types of fundraising options for families. There are two main types of fundraising: General Funds and Individual Student Accounts. All monies raised through larger events (i.e. Craft Show, Jazz Dinner(s) and Deer Lakes PIMBA Competition, etc.) go directly into the General Fund. This account allows for the purchase of items that benefit the entire group (i.e. uniforms, instruments, etc.).
An Individual Student Account will be set up for each student when they become a member of the band programs. Fundraisers will be available throughout the year to help assist students in raising money for their own individual accounts. This money has proven to be incredible useful when paying for student activities, trips, band camp fees and more.

What is PIMBA?
PIMBA (Pennsylvania Interscholastic Marching Band Association) is the competitive circuit in which we participate in during the fall. These competitions and festivals are typically held Saturdays beginning after Labor Day and running through October. Where we do not participate every weekend, we try to give our students as many chances to perform as possible each season.
